About

The Cabin:  Secluded is the name of the game, and you’ll notice it as soon as you drive up.  The cabin feels like it is somewhere in northern MN, rather than being an easy 1.5 hour drive from the Twin Cities.  It is located on a large lot loaded with mature hardwoods.  In addition, the lot is on a peninsula, with many panoramic views of the lake.

The interior of the cabin is full of charm and recently remodeled.  It is loaded with windows throughout, including the large A-frame side facing the lake.  The living/dining/and kitchen are all open and have beautiful pine paneled walls.  The kitchen has all major appliances, plus a coffee maker and toaster.

The cabin sleeps up to 6 with the master bedroom and a new futon downstairs.  Up in the loft is a queen bed and one twin bed.  There is also a bathroom with shower both on the main level and in the loft.  WiFi is available in the cabin, along with a new LED smart TV with Netflix, but no cable.

Time at the cabin is meant to be outside, and this cabin has a couple great places to enjoy the Minnesota weather.  A sliding door from the living room leads to a magnificent deck that was completely replaced in 2016 with maintenance free decking.  This is an ideal place to eat any meals, play games, or watch the sunset.  In addition, a 4 season porch on the side of the cabin can also be accessed from the living room or deck and provides great lake and nature views in the comfort of a mosquito-free zone!

The Lake:  Little Birch Lake is truly a gem in Central Minnesota, with water clarity and beauty normally reserved for lakes Up North.  The lake has great sunfish, crappie, walleye, northern, and bass fishing, with lots of structure (just a short distance out from the cabin it is over 70 feet deep!).  Some of the best fishing has even been right from the dock!  It is also a popular recreational lake with crystal clear water and several bays to get out of the wind.  Tubing, skiing, jet skiing, wakeboarding, and sailing are all common on Little Birch.  Nice swimming area around the dock for kids and adults!  More information about the lake can be found on the MN DNR website:

The Area:  While the cabin offers ample seclusion, there are plenty of nearby amenities to keep you supplied and entertained.  For a quick gas/bait stop, Rudy’s Country Store in St. Rosa is close by.  Melrose is a 10 minute drive south, and offers Gas, Bait, Restaurants, Groceries, Liquor, and more.  Sauk Centre, 15 minutes to the west, has a Walmart, Movie Theater, and numerous other dining options.  We’d recommend John Dough’s Pizza in Melrose, the R&R Bar and Grill in Grey Eagle, or the infamous Charlie’s Café in Freeport if you’re looking for a fun dining option.  There are also numerous golf courses in the area, including a championship course in Sauk Centre (GreyStone Golf Club).

Another nearby attraction is the Birch Lakes State Forest, just a few miles from the cabin.  There are several trails for running, biking, or hiking throughout the forest, as well as opportunities to Geocache.
